Path To Freedom & Joy

Aug 03, 2006 by Luann Robinson Hull
During the next six weeks, we will be taking a look at how we can liberate ourselves from the personality patterns, which no longer serve our development and growth. It is time to claim our full and most optimal potential and let go of anything that is interrupting progress…now! Not just some, but all of our misery can be eliminated if we are just willing to take a look at what we ourselves might be able to do to adjust, alter, eliminate and expand.

Here are some questions to ponder as we explore together what we need to emphasize or adjust in order to embrace all possibilities for joy and happiness… now! Can you identify 10 strengths? Can you notice any prevailing life-themes...

Coming To Peace

Jul 27, 2006 by Luann Robinson Hull
During the past few weeks, we have been taking a deeper look at the condition of happiness, and how we can come to experience that state of being in more regular doses…eventually, all of the time… no matter what. We have used the advice of some wise teachers, who tell us that much of what causes our misery is directly related to our perception in any given situation. And, that in order to avoid suffering, we have to keep digging for the truth. What is really going on here? (It’s possible that we can be carried away by either bliss, or disaster. Our minds are subject to massive error depending on a multitude of factors, starting with our emotional state...

Momentary Pleasure or Happiness & Inner Fulfillment

Jul 20, 2006 by Luann Robinson Hull
“Happiness is a state of inner fulfillment, not the gratification of inexhaustible desires for outward things.”—Matthieu Ricard (pp. 31, Happiness, by Matthieu Ricard, 2003)

In our ever ending search to obtain happiness, the very act of striving will itself frequently take us further away from the joy and fulfillment we are so hoping to find. And often in this seeking of ours, we will come upon a “momentary pleasure” or delight, which we may mistake for our deliverance to that state of eternal bliss. Of course, it is possible that this “momentary pleasure” can extend for seconds to even days or weeks. Nonetheless, we willnot experience this event in the same way that we did the first time as time passes, no matter what the...

Learning To Stay

Jul 14, 2006 by Luann Robinson Hull
Greetings and welcome to our ongoing dialogue on how to make happiness a priority in your life… right now.

“[Sometimes] we feel that there is a large problem and we have to fix it. [Instead,] stop. Do something unfamiliar. Do anything besides rushing off in the same old direction, up to the same old tricks.”—Pema Chodron

Last week we began our discussion by looking back at our lives to times of difficulty, and then noticing the successes, which followed. We challenged ourselves to review how we had actually used loss as a launch pad for success, even if we hadn’t been fully aware at the time of what had facilitated our process of transcendence.

Ultimately, each of us has an innate awareness that...

Looking At Loss as a Launch Pad

Jul 06, 2006 by Luann Robinson Hull
Greetings and welcome to this week’s discussion on choosing to be happy.

“This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness…welcome and entertain them all… Each one may be preparing you for a new delight…”—Rumi

Most of you have experienced a significant loss in one form or another. At the time of that loss, no doubt you suffered anguish and misery. You thought those feelings would endure…maybe even indefinitely. More than likely in your most intense moments of suffering, it would have been difficult to embrace Rumi’s words (“welcome and entertain them all…”).You might have struggled to access the still place within that would have served to be your source of strength and...

Transcending The Difficulties of Life

Jun 29, 2006 by Luann Robinson Hull
Greetings to all and welcome to this ongoing discussion on the subject of happiness!

Last week we challenged ourselves to begin observing the constant mind chatter, which if left unattended, will like a whirlpool, swirl us into a spin of looking, seeking, wanting and desiring something to make “it” or us happy. “If I could only be out of debt, have the perfect partner (or tweak the one I have into perfection) lose weight, be taller, younger, wiser, richer…then I would be happy. Or, maybe if I continue attempting to attain these things…even if I can’t be happy now, maybe I will be happy some time in the future. We also challenged ourselves to let go of even one little attachment...

Quiet & Listening Leads Us To True Joy In Our Hearts

Jun 02, 2006 by Luann Robinson Hull
Happiness can only evade us if we are searching and striving for it in the wrong places. Once we are willing to dive toward the ever-open branches of our very own hearts, the singing bird will come and show us how to soar. And when we get quiet enough to listen to her sweet, melodious song, we will be effortlessly guided to all of the mysterious, exotic places that will fill our hearts with more joy than we ever thought possible.

All we have to do is to be willing to embark on the journey to Always Land. It has been there all along, inside of us...just waiting to be discovered. Dare to go there now and leave Never Land behind...forever...

Happiness and love...

Freedom Creates Stability

May 22, 2006 by Luann Robinson Hull
The more freedom you allow your beloved (and yourself), the more you will contribute to the stability of the relationship. When you try to hold on, or restrict him in any way, you will cause him to feel limited and confined. He must be given the freedom to pursue his purpose with your full support, and vice versa. Learn to accept his truth as your truth, and expect the same from him. (and if this does not appear to be happening despite your ongoing best efforts...well....)

Naturally, making such a personal and collective commitment requires that you continue developing trust...first in yourself, and then in him. You can do it. Go!

Love, joy and truth to you!

Your Glorious, Fulfilled Self Remains, Even If A Beloved Person Departs

May 18, 2006 by Luann Robinson Hull
Your beloved is the one who will help you to learn more of what you need to know about yourself, more of who you are, and more of who you are becoming. It is crucial, however, for you to remember that without him (her), you will still be your glorious self, and you can still be happy. And with him (her), you have the potential to expand and grow into more happiness and fulfillment.

Remember this as you go about your business this week:

He (or she) is not Prince (or Princess) Charming. Our beloved comes into our life to join us. Not to save us.

Peace, joy and happiness to you!

True Love Comes To Those Who Extend & Expand Themselves

May 08, 2006 by Luann Robinson Hull
True love has nothing to do with the hit of ecstasy or the bliss common in the beginning phases of romance (or what happens to us when we swoon over George Clooney, Clive Owen or Brad Pitt). Romance does have the potential to take us deeper, though if we remain stuck in romantic fantasy, we eventually will find that this phase is only a temporary solution to an eternal journey. True love when we have it, does not seek or desire, for it only wants to extend and expand....inward, outward, upward and beyond. Likewise, it is from this place of desired expansion that true love comes back to infinite supply...

Enjoy your expansion...enjoy the love that comes back to you as a result!
