The Queen's Jewels

Useful Gems for Reprogramming Ourselves as Women Colorful gems. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Last week I shared an excerpt from my book, "Happily Ever After Right Now" on reprogramming ourselves, and how the only way we can discover true happiness is to be thorough in our investigation of self.  Below are a few gems (or jewels), which can serve as cues on how to take the inner journey.

Whether dormant and disguised or fully operative in their most optimal brilliance, the polishing of these gemstones is what will awaken us to the true callings of the heart. It is no coincidence that each number below represents a chapter title of my book: 1. Entitlement: Let Go of the Longing for the...

Relationships: Re-Programming Ourselves as Women

Relationships: Re-Programming Ourselves as Women
It is our ancient conditioning that keeps us stuck in old thought patterns and behaviors about love and relationships. So, then how can we emancipate ourselves from this conditioning's grasp? The primal beliefs and thoughts etched into our consciousness can be automatically triggered by an event. Just like the enchantment that caused Sleeping Beauty to fall asleep when she pricked her finger on the spinning wheel at age sixteen, our old fearful spells kick in when we feel rejected or alone. We can dismantle the power of our ancient conditioning (which wants us to believe that we are sure prey for the lurking monsters) by creating new beliefs and incantations of Entitlement.

The point is that we need to be committed to becoming aware of...

Letting Go of the Old, Inviting the New

Letting Go of the Old, Inviting the New
Let go of the old so you can completely take hold of the new. -Joyce Meyers (Photo credit: deeplifequotes)

Is it possible that the archetype of need has been conditioned and etched into the trenches of our consciousness from the start of our existence? Even though we live in the twenty-first century, we are still influenced by our primal origins. Renowned Psychologist Carl Gustav Jung (Stevens, 1982) was a powerful pathfinder with his careful examination of the mazes of stories that appear to run our lives. He delved into meaning and symbols and explored how these are conveyed both individually and collectively through tales that weave themselves into the collective psyche and become lodged as cultural norms,...

Royalty We Have Known and Loved

No doubt, you've seen and perhaps even known men or women who have chosen to live in their Magnificence. They exude inner strength and confidence and are respected and admired by others. Mother Teresa, Oprah Winfrey, Katherine Hepburn, Eleanor Roosevelt, Maya Angelou, Audrey Hepburn and Queen Noor of Jordan come to mind as female examples. Consider the saintly qualities of Mary, Queen of Heavens, and Magnificent mother of Jesus - picture Hera, Queen of the gods, who reigned as an equal partner with Zeus. Literary characters can also serve as model. Visualize Ayala in The Clan of the Cave Bear (Auel, 2002) series, who maintained a sense of herself and embodied the Royal essence, even thought she was scorned by the less-evolved tribe...

What You Seek Already Exists

What You Seek Already Exists

When we focus on and trust our insights and inspirations (which are the voices that guide us to fulfilling our passions and dreams), the urgent need to obtain security in another or outside of us will begin to melt away and eventually disappear. Widows who have learned to become dependent on their husbands, for example, often discover a multitude of inner strength, courage, and wisdom following the death of their spouse. The same is true of women who have broken up with their partners. As they move through the stages of grief, they are frequently astounded by the sense of power and delight that accompanies the process of developing their independence.

The Magic of Majesty

Like the heroes/heroines in fairy tales who had to accomplish some seemingly impossible task, you will be able to set aside apparent "real" limits and move steadily to your goals coming from the inspirations of your heart. The Grimm's (fairy tale) girls, for instance, invariably did what they needed to do -- they got a good night's sleep -- and allowed the guidance of their inner wisdom to handle the rest. The internal womb of stillness will always point us to peace. Our only task is to listen and then follow where...

The Payoff

The Payoff
"Much of your pain is self-chosen. It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self. Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquility: For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the Unseen, and the cup he brings forth, though it burns your lips, has been fashioned of the clay which the Potter has moistened with His own sacred tears." -- Kahlil Gibran (1951, p. 51) The Prophet Image credit: Kahlil Gibran, "The Prophet" on Facebook  How did we get to be such drudges -- such slaves? Cultural stories steadily seep into our psyche like a leaky faucet that never gets fixed. Then, our conditioning ensconces them...

New Stories, New Enchantments

New Stories, New Enchantments
Image credit: Mike Barret, "Crystal of Enchantment" As we become more and more willing to be completely transparent in all of our relationships, the more freedom we will have for unlimited growth. And, in our willingness to be totally open and honest, we provide the space for others to choose clarity and integrity for themselves. When speaking and living the truth without being concerned about others leaving when we do, the more people are inclined to stick around. They are attracted to our authenticity and openness. It is fresh and alive. It works. When we stand tall to face the stark, screeching terror of abandonment, we create an opening to remember that divine love can provide the only rescue. It is from this...

Winter: A Happiness Experiment

“Happiness does not come automatically. It is not a gift that good fortune bestows upon us and a reversal of fortune takes back. It depends on us alone. One does not become happy overnight, but with patient labor, day after day. Happiness is constructed, and that requires effort and time. In order to become happy, we have to learn how to change ourselves”—Luca and Francesco Cavalli-Sforza

We last connected at the beginning of summer, which seemed to fly by in a blink. And now the mountain landscape outside my window is morphing from the last remnants of glorious amber-gold into a backdrop of white, white, and more white. For some reason I have settled in an alpine environment despite my lifelong...

Reflections and Progress

Over the past several weeks we have discussed the topic of happiness and what it truly means to be happy. We have talked about how to use loss as a launch pad, alchemizing the lead of our challenges into the gold of our existence. We have reviewed ways to shift our perceptions and to look for some potential pearls in whatever state of temporary peril we may be feeling.

We have also delved into the idea of personality patterns and how those influence our lives. Some of us have practiced the ancient ritual of Ho’oponopono, which involves asking to be healed yourself, of any quality that you resist in another. By doing this we can humbly recognize that we have the...

Conscious Conversations

We recently completed our third gathering of Conscious Conversations™ in Aspen , Colorado and I am delighted to report that the groups are sprouting in other areas and gaining momentum. What are they: Gatherings of people who meet regularly to support each other in conscious living both practically and philosophically. The Goal: to combine our strengths in achieving an optimal state of personal and collective growth.

The discussions continue to be both thought provoking and inspiring. Among some of the topics mentioned in last week’s Aspen group was a dialogue on how to really make progress with some of the sobering issues currently facing us both individually and globally. The following interpretation of Thomas Hartman's message in The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight, was discussed: “If you don’t raise consciousness by...

Cultivating Self-Love

I know it isn’t necessarily a glamorous or popular topic, though as we pointed out last week, without it, we can’t have a solid foundation for really loving and being loved. Scott Peck (1978), the legendary author of The Road Less Traveled, defines love as the desire for your own spiritual growth or for that of the beloved. How would you define love? Would your description be similar to Peck’s—wanting growth and expansion for yourself or another? Or does love hold a different meaning in your world?

Regardless of how we come to define love, one thing has become quite clear to me in listening to others as well as making my own personal discoveries. Compromise has no place in a...

How To Eliminate Suffering For Good

Perhaps Shakespeare’s beautiful words, which were sent out last week, can provide us with some clues:

“Let me not to the marriage of true minds Admit impediments. Love is not love Which alters when it alteration finds, Or bends with the remover to remove. Oh no! It is an ever fixed mark That looks on tempests and is never shaken; It is the star to every wandering bark, Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken. Love is not Time’s fool It alters not with brief hours and weeks But it bears it out even to the edge of doom.”—William Shakespeare

Someone logged into our forum and offered her thoughts, which echo my own: Without a solid foundation of self-love, it is impossible to maintain the “fixed mark” of love that Shakespeare...

Expecting Great Things

Several weeks ago, we talked about how our current brains were actually forming during a time of catastrophic conditions on planet earth. And so therefore, we humans have actually been trained for the catastrophe. Scanning for the worst is what has kept us from becoming extinct, and so that method of operating was quite effective during times of immense hardship and crude circumstances.

Now, ironically, the only thing that threatens our extinction is continuing to behave this way. If we keep looking for the worst case scenario and living as though we are separate from our brothers and sisters, as well as the earth that continues to support us, then aren’t we operating out of our fear for survival just like...

Time: Is There Enough?

In a recent conversation with my father, I learned that my grandfather, whose formal education extended only through the fifth grade, taught himself calculus, geometry, and trigonometry. According to Dad, his perpetual curiosity was what inspired him to strengthen his knowledge and understanding about how things worked. Apparently his inquiries sometimes served him well. While working as an auto mechanic in the 1930’s he discovered a method of conserving oil in the newly developed oil-guzzling, V8 engines. By using his skill and ingenuity he developed a unique process that eventually earned him the clients, which would help to support his family throughout the Great Depression.

What are you curious about? What would you be doing right now if you removed statements...

Transforming the Habit of Fear into Genius

“Despite our overt resolve, we are still creatures of habit. Resolve is activated by self-confidence, which in turn depends on the self image we have.”—Stephen Batchelor

“As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live.” –John Wolfgang Von Goethe

“And so it goes, and so it goes, and you’re the only one who knows.”—Billy Joel

If you are a living, breathing creature reading the words on this page, you have the ability in this moment to distinguish the difference between what causes you to suffer and what brings you joy and happiness. There isn’t another human on the planet that can do it for you. No guru, teacher, workshop, or class has the answers. It is only you who knows....

You Are Making a Difference

Interesting time of the year… autumn. As I look out my window I can still see remnants of beautiful golden leaves adorning the hillside, while others have turned brown and are falling to the ground, ready to become the compost that will fertilize new growth in the spring.

As we notice the changes that are taking place in our lives, both individually and collectively, how can we join together to create a collective compost that can alchemize the past, building the foundation for a positive future?

The green leaves of spring will inevitably turn brown and fall to the ground. And then, the cycle will repeat itself. The leaves come, the leaves go. People come. People go. And you want to be...

Path To Freedom & Joy

During the next six weeks, we will be taking a look at how we can liberate ourselves from the personality patterns, which no longer serve our development and growth. It is time to claim our full and most optimal potential and let go of anything that is interrupting progress…now! Not just some, but all of our misery can be eliminated if we are just willing to take a look at what we ourselves might be able to do to adjust, alter, eliminate and expand.

Here are some questions to ponder as we explore together what we need to emphasize or adjust in order to embrace all possibilities for joy and happiness… now! Can you identify 10 strengths? Can you notice any prevailing life-themes...

True Love Comes To Those Who Extend & Expand Themselves

True love has nothing to do with the hit of ecstasy or the bliss common in the beginning phases of romance (or what happens to us when we swoon over George Clooney, Clive Owen or Brad Pitt). Romance does have the potential to take us deeper, though if we remain stuck in romantic fantasy, we eventually will find that this phase is only a temporary solution to an eternal journey. True love when we have it, does not seek or desire, for it only wants to extend and expand....inward, outward, upward and beyond. Likewise, it is from this place of desired expansion that true love comes back to infinite supply...

Enjoy your expansion...enjoy the love that comes back to you as a result!
