Your Mind Can Help You Make Lots of Money

“When we shall have arrived at a sufficient understanding, our thought will take us where we wish to be.”—Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind

“You don’t have to be perfect to get rich, but you do need to recognize when your thinking isn’t empowering to yourself and others…The secret to success is not to try to avoid or get rid of or shrink from your problems; the secret to success is to grow yourself so that you are bigger than any problem.” –T. Harv Eker Secrets of the Millionaire Mind

I don’t know about you, but for most of my adult life, the concern over money has occupied quite a lot of my time. When I have had it, I’ve wondered what to do with it, how to invest it, where to put it and how much to spend of it. When it has appeared to be scarce, I can go from periods of “rational” fear, to sheer terror and panic. And then, there are times that I haven’t given much thought to money at all, focusing more on my passions and inspirations and how to develop those.

I have not been particularly responsible with money, though I can’t say that I have been necessarily irresponsible, either. I have made a few impetuous decisions, which have cost me dearly, and I have had astonishing good fortune when logic and reason would find no cause for such. I have “acquired” lots of money and “lost” lots of money. And for the life of me, I can’t determine what is behind either trend, with the exception of one variable (although their have been many people, including financial advisors, who would want me to believe differently).

And what would that be? It has been my mind, my beliefs and the underlying feelings (the most important part), which have accompanied my thoughts. As I look back, my apparent success or failure with money (and all areas of my life for that matter) has been completely influenced by what I have been thinking and how those thoughts have influenced my feelings and emotions. From my perspective, the combination of these factors has been solely responsible for my prosperity or apparent lack thereof across every part of my existence from the time of my earliest memory.

Now, there will be some who undoubtedly take issue with me on this perspective. Perhaps you feel it is all about the investment strategy, willingness to work hard, constant budgeting diligence, and so on. And, I would respond by saying that if you are currently using these approaches and they are working for you and, they do not in any way cause strain, stress, tension or trauma, then you should by all means proceed exactly as you are doing.

However, if your current strategies for financial freedom are in any way causing you anxiety or upset, ask yourself if you are willing to change.

Are you ready to release your belief that you have to experience blood, sweat, and tears, while you scrimp and scrounge in order to be successful with money? If you are, then stay with me for just a minute longer.

Here is a revolutionary thought for you to ponder: “You don’t have to create financial abundance. It is already there. It always has been. You have just hidden it from yourself.”—Robert Scheinfeld, Busting Loose from the Money Game
