Reflections on Peace

Oct 17, 2006 by Luann Robinson Hull
Greetings to my dear friends and family,

Over the past few weeks we have been focusing on the subject of peace and how to create more feelings of harmony, not only in our own lives, but in the lives of everyone we touch. Starting with the week of September 11, 2006, we launched this series of discussions by noticing how we might offer peace to another in some way, every day, making note of any internal conflict, which could interrupt the intent. And then being sure to pay attention on how pivoting toward peace, rather than reacting with some less favorable emotion, could end up serving us every bit as much, if not more than the person, group, etc., for whom our peaceful objective was originally intended.

Next we began to explore simple ways to experience gratitude (anything for which you are truly appreciative will do), particularly during times of annoyance. Being thankful for a hot bath or shower on a chilly autumn morning is good for starters. While lingering in a warm tub this morning, I remembered traveling in Europe a few years ago and staying with a family who only used hot water on the weekends. I never forgot the cold, one minute showers in Italy! Having gratitude immediately shifts the focus of any negativity you might be experiencing to one of joy. (Try it. You simply cannot be negative about anything when you are feeling appreciation. The positive thought will over-ride the negative one every single time!)

We also spent some time on the subject of forgiveness and letting go, and explored ways of how to move from ruminating on revenge to responding by looking at the whole picture, eventually enabling ourselves to move in the direction of compassion and love.

Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Rumi offered, “Let the beauty we love be what we do.”

And, I have always found these simple, yet profound words from my brother quite useful. “Begin…the rest is easy.”

Join us next week as we launch a new series of discussions. Be sure to visit our site at! Let us know the topics that you are interested in exploring. We love hearing from you!

Expect great things. You are a miracle.

Blessings and peace be with you now and forevermore.
